Academic Freedom in an Era of Democratic Backsliding: October 1, 5-7pm
The uOttawa Public Law Centre, in collaboration with the Law Commission of Canada, is pleased to welcome Professor Nomi Claire Lazar for a public lecture on academic freedom and the rule of law.
Professor Lazar will examine the vital role universities play in sustaining democratic societies and explore the challenges that academic freedom faces amid growing polarization and democratic backsliding.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. A reception will follow the lecture.

Who Decides Immigration in Quebec?: October 7, 11:30am–1pm
Who decides, in Canada, who can come to study, work, or settle in Quebec? More than thirty years after it was signed, the 1991 Canada-Quebec Accord continues to shape the answer. While it consolidated Quebec's powers over permanent immigration, the division of responsibilities for temporary immigration remains unclear.
To explore these questions, we are pleased to invite you to a lunch talk with Professor France Houle (Faculty of Law, Université de Montréal), who will present her report « Au-delà de demain sur l'immigration ». In it, she analyzes the Accord's effects on federal and Quebec immigration law and on the international student program, as well as the limits of section 95 of the Constitution Act, 1867. Professor Lili Dao (Civil Law Section) will serve as discussant, and Professor Delphine Nakache (French Common Law Program) will moderate the discussion.
This lunch talk is jointly organized by the University of Ottawa Chair on Migrant Protection and International Law and the University of Ottawa Public Law Centre.

The uOttawa Public Law Centre is pleased to invite you to the launch of L’équité procédurale en droit administratif canadien, featuring a discussion with authors Hon. Simon Ruel, Paul-David Chouinard, and Jordan Mayer on the key themes and issues explored in the work.
The book examines the foundations and development of procedural fairness in Canadian administrative law, its application in different contexts, and its relationship with judicial review and other areas of public law.
