Foreign Affairs in the Canadian Constitution: November 26, 11:30am - 1:00pm

Foreign Affairs in the Canadian Constitution examines the constitutional basis of Canada’s foreign affairs powers, focusing on the relationship between federal executive authority, the royal prerogative, and the division of powers between federal and provincial governments. Through key constitutional disputes and comparisons with Australia and the United States, Dr. H. Scott Fairley argues that constitutional practice, judicial interpretation, and historical development have established foreign affairs as a core area of federal jurisdiction.

Dr. Fairley is a leading constitutional and international lawyer, partner at Cambridge LLP, and Co-Chair of its International Arbitration Group. He will be joined by an expert panel featuring Yves Le Boutillier, Allison Goody, Daniel Turp, and Warren Newman, moderated by Kristen Boon, Dean of Common Law at the University of Ottawa. The event is presented in collaboration with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law Research Office.
